On an auspicious nakshatra day and yog, the rudraksha should be energized and worn. Before energizing the rudraksha bead, it should be immersed in ghee or sesame oil or mustard oil for 24 hours. Later remove the bead and put it in warm water to remove the extra oil or ghee absorbed by it. Once done immerse it in raw cow’s milk for a few hours.
On the day of energizing the bead, once should duly bathed wearing well washed clothes, preferably white or yellow in color. Please note, never use black, blue or grey clothes while energizing the bead. Facing east or west wash it with gaumutra and gangajal then wipe it clean, place it in front of your mandir at home in a small dish which has a few grains of rice smeared with kumkum (akshada). Offer haldi, kumkum and bhasma to the bead. Then hold the bead in your palm and chant ‘Om Namah Shivaay’ or individual beejmantra meant for individual mukhi beads given in the product description, or with the handout given in the package delivered. The mantra should be chanted 108 times or a minimum of 21 times. Once done, offer incense sticks(agarbatti) ghee diya(lamp) and yellow or white flowers, then offer rice kheer or milk with saffron as bhog or prasad. If possible, you can later take the bead to a shiv temple or a shivlingam near your residence, keep it in contact with the deity for some time while you chant ‘Om Namah Shivay’ or the beejmantra of the bead 21 times and then wear it.
During the whole procedure, keep your mind focused on the process of energizing the bead. Maintain clarity of thought and a sense of devotion and surrender to the deity or almighty.
